Project Technology for Rural Communities (TRC)

How to use technology for the development of rural communities?

The Project Technology for Rural Communities (TRC) is the third component of the Development Program for Rural Communities (DPRC). As such, it complements its first two components ― the Functional Literacy in Official Language Project (FLOLP) and the Community Education in Native Languages Project (CENLP).

Technology can be used for the purposes of facilitating communication, circulating information regarding economic activities in rural areas, improving existing administrative and community services, or creating new ones. In the context of the DPRC, the tools of the TRC are used to effectively collect and share data on the challenges rural communities face, and to help individuals and local organizations be more innovative, efficient and productive.

For example, beneficiaries who have completed initial literacy programs can be brought to develop new skills and acquire new competencies in computer technology. Access to information and networking facilitate permanent education and the discovery of the outside world, which allows to establish contacts and exchange according to individual and community needs. In these regards, information technologies allow to: (i) collect socio-economic and cultural data; (ii) install a system to document and record data pertaining to human, material and financial resources available locally; (iii) establish a system for storing the data; and (iv) facilitate better management of rural resources. Trained beneficiaries will work alongside village authorities and local organizations for community development.
